Ok everyone,
It's done! I've installed the chip in my existing Nvidia 570 board (with bios update to AM2+ processors).
Rig:
4GB Patriot DDR2-800 Ram (4X1)
400GB WD Hard Drive (SATA2)
DVD Reader [SATA2]
DVD +/- Writer [SATA2}
ATI 1950 Pro 256MB Video Card (PCI-E]
Initial Comparison - AMD X2 6000+ vs. AMD Phenom 9500:
Boinc benchmark:
X2 [Stock @ 3.0 Ghz]:
15-Dec-2007 20:23:14 [---] Benchmark results:
15-Dec-2007 20:23:14 [---] Number of CPUs: 2
15-Dec-2007 20:23:14 [---] 3083 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
15-Dec-2007 20:23:14 [---] 5552 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
Phenom [Stock @ 2.21 Ghz]:
19-Dec-2007 18:15:28 [---] Number of CPUs: 4
19-Dec-2007 18:15:28 [---] 2250 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
19-Dec-2007 18:15:28 [---] 5314 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
Of course, since the X2 was clocked faster, it shows a better benchmark. WU's are showing between 4.5 and 5 hours with the phenom, about 3.5 - 4.5 hours with the X2 depending on the project.
Since I don't have the newer R700 chipset, I'm unable to use any of the functions of AMD overdrive.
This is what I have so far. Let me know, short of overclocking manually, what you'd like to know. [I guess I'm a chicken...never really went beyond stock on anything, as, I had to fix stuff when other people cook hundreds of dollars of hardware for a 15% increase)
Keep 'em crunchin
ayoustic
PS The phenom may not be the most impressive cpu out there right now, but, I'm crunching two more WU's at a time than I was before, and, I can move my X2 6000 to another cruncher!

Doesn't look like it's going to over-clock worth a darn, but that is a project for another day. I would suggest that anyone interested in one of these should wait for the 9700 to come out.
Edit: Dec 4.
The upside is that it looks like everything is validating on this machine (I was worried about the 128 bit wide FP unit producing different results than the standard 64 bit wide unit most CPU's use).
Performance looks just slightly better than a pair of 4200+ X2's hooked together (what I would expect @ 2.2 GHz).
Al- has your's shown up yet?
